La Paz
La Paz's natural beauty makes it the perfect setting for a relaxing vacation.
The city was founded by Hernando Cortez on May 3, 1535. As years passed,
many tried to colonize it; Sebastian Vizcaino in 1596, Isidro de Atondo and
Antillon in 1863, plus Jesuits Juan de Ugarte and Jaime Bravo in 1720. But it
wasn't until 1811 when Jose Espinoza established the first permanent
settlement. In 1830 La Paz became the official capital of Baja California Sur.
La Paz now has a population of 170,000.
