Mulege
Santa Rosalia de Mulege is a church that was built between
1754-1766. The church is now a popular historic tourist attraction.
The stone structure was designed in an "L" shape, suggesting a
simplicity in design distinctive of the South Californian missions.
Due to a scarce population in 1828 the church was abandoned.
Throughout the years, however a church was deemed necessary
as more people began settling back in the city. Subsequently,
residents of the area have restored Santa Rosalia de Mulege
several times.

A statue of Santa Rosalía and a bell, both from the 18th century are
still kept in the church's interior. The church is nestled on a
mound overlooking the town and the river of Mulegé.
Another nearby tourist attraction is a museum that used to be a
State Prison. This prison is noted for its unique design, containing
cells without locks.
